Deeply Rooted Viewing Party/Red Beans & Rice Dinner

March 11th, 2018 4:00pm - 9:00pm

Celebrate one of America's great heritage dishes:  delicious, egalitarian and centuries-old.

Join us for an Emmy-nominated documentary:  "Deeply Rooted"  and stay for Red Beans & Rice Dinner (registration link below)

DOCUMENTARY  John Coykendall, heirloom seed saver and master gardener at Blackberry Farm, a luxury resort in Walland, TN, has been collecting seeds and history from Louisiana farmers for almost half a century. We'll hear his story in "Deeply Rooted: John Coykendall's Journey to Save Our Seeds and Stories."  The Emmy-nominated documentary, produced by Louisiana Public Broadcasting, with funding from Camellia Brand Beans of New Orleans, chronicles Coykendall's journey to preserve both seeds and traditional farming practices for future generations.

DINNER  Thus primed, we'll be called to the table for a traditional dinner of Camellia Brand red beans and Cajun Country Brand rice  (all provided by Slow Food USA)  -- with all the trimmings --  prepared by Slow Food member/supporter Chef Mike Rago.  Mike owns this dish  from years cooking in Baton Rouge.  Join us for"Red Beans and Rice 101" as Mike cooks,  tells tales and shares red beans secrets from his Louisiana friends.

NOLA-INSPIRED APPS And, not to worry, we'll have tidbits and bites, NOLA-style,  to see us through to dinner.
